This iced coconut water coffee recipe is extra refreshing without feeling heavy like milk-based drinks. It’s incredibly easy to make and especially good on hot days when you want coffee that feels cold, light, and hydrating instead of overly creamy or sweet.

What is coconut water coffee?
Iced coconut water coffee is a cold coffee drink made with coffee, coconut water, and ice. The flavor is smooth, lightly nutty, slightly sweet, and much more refreshing than a regular iced latte.
One reason so many people love it is that it feels lighter and easier to drink in hot weather. Coconut water also contains electrolytes, which makes this especially nice on really warm days.
In cafés, this drink is sometimes called an iced coconut americano because it combines espresso with coconut water instead of regular water. Don’t worry too much about using the “perfect” coffee for this recipe. Espresso, strong brewed coffee, cold brew concentrate, or even instant coffee can all work well.

Ingredient notes & substitutes
Everything here is easy to find at regular supermarkets or Asian grocery stores. Head to the recipe card below for the exact measurements.
- Coffee: Espresso gives the strongest café-style flavor, but cold brew, moka pot coffee, strong brewed coffee, or instant coffee all work well here.
- Coconut water: Use chilled coconut water for the freshest flavor. Some brands taste sweeter while others are more nutty or earthy.
- Ice: This drink should be served very cold.
Tip: Some coconut waters are naturally sweeter than others, and stronger coffees can overpower the drink if you use too much. I usually start with less coffee first, taste it, and then add more if needed.
Optional additions
If you prefer creamier coffee drinks, try my Thai iced coffee or add:
- Sweetened condensed milk
- Evaporated milk
- Coconut milk
- Simple syrup
- Creamer
How to make coffee with coconut water
The easiest way to make coconut water coffee is to pour strong coffee or espresso over lots of ice and chilled coconut water. The biggest thing is starting with cold ingredients, so the drink stays refreshing instead of watered down.
- Brew the coffee: Prepare espresso or strong coffee and let it cool slightly if needed.
- Fill the glass with ice: Add plenty of ice to a tall serving glass.
- Add coconut water: Pour chilled coconut water over the ice.
- Add the coffee: Slowly pour the coffee over the coconut water.
- Adjust to taste: Taste and add extra coconut water, milk, or sweetener if needed. Serve immediately.
It should taste cold and refreshing first, with the coffee flavor coming through at the end.
